016 – Three Critical Temptations Faced by Every Leader

016 – Three Critical Temptations Faced by Every Leader

We are tempted to relevance, to power, and the desire to do the spectacular. None of these are wrong in and of themselves, but coupled with unexamined motivation any of them can lead to leadership or life disaster. We must couple our desire for significance with the desire for transformation in the lifting of those we love and lead.

I sometimes struggle with having right motivations. I want to do great and awesome things. I want to live a significant life. For as much godly experience as I have in life, you would think I’d be exempt from temptations involving whacked out motivations, but if Jesus could be tempted in those areas, then it’s probably going to be a lifelong struggle as I continue to put “self” to death and live at a higher level. I must constantly lay down the desire to accomplish great things — yes, you heard me right — and embrace transformation and transformational leadership/ministry as my higher objective. In this episode of the Calibrate Life Podcast, David and Donna discuss Three Critical Temptations Faced by Every Leader and how they practically struggle with and navigate these temptations in their own life as they press toward joyful living.

010 – Why Trust is More Important than Clarity: Choosing the Right Path in the Fog

010 – Why Trust is More Important than Clarity: Choosing the Right Path in the Fog

We all desire clarity of vision and direction for the future. Clarity is important for decisiveness. It’s much easier to move boldly into the future when we have a clear picture in our spirit, mind, and soul. But what about those times when everything is foggy except for the next few steps? Trust is far more important than clarity when it comes to choosing the right paths and directions. Spiritual leaders, coaches, and mentors are always concerned with a clear vision of the future, and this episode of Calibrate Life focuses upon how the greatest visional clarity comes through a commitment to trust.

The most common question asked by leaders who want to honor Christ with their lives is, “How do I know what’s next?” “How do I know God’s will or direction for my life?” “How do I know when it is time to change paths, or which path I should choose?” All of those question have in common a desire for a crystal clear future, or at least a detailed life plan and direction. 8 Filters I Use to Determine the Content I Allow to Influence Me

8 Filters I Use to Determine the Content I Allow to Influence Me

I’ve been reading a lot of blogs, articles, books, the latest and greatest you-should-do-this or buy-this resources, and listening to a lot of podcasts, in fact I regularly throw my own stuff in the mix… yep, I own it, I am a blogger, I am a podcaster, I am a writer, I have a lot of things in my heart and my head and I have joined the ranks.

I love to read what other people are thinking, but more than that, I love to read insights from people who have an obvious relationship with God and have a few scars to prove they’ve remained faithful through some tough stuff.

This past week, I’ve been thinking a lot about who I will and should listen to, who I will read, and who I will take advice from. Hey, I’ve learned incredible things from the most unlikely sources, many of them secular. It irks me just a little that sometimes it seems more wisdom flows from “secular” authors than from Christ-following writers and leaders. After all, God is the source of the most excellent wisdom. 006 – Cultivating Right Thinking and Leading Out of a Positive Mindset

006 – Cultivating Right Thinking and Leading Out of a Positive Mindset

We have to have right and positive thinking before we can live, lead, and love the way God intended. In this episode of the Calibrate Life Podcast, David and Donna talk about calibrating our thinking to lift ourselves and to coach and mentor those we love and lead. If you think negatively, you will get negative results, but if you cultivate right thinking, you will realize God-possibilities.

Neither of us subscribe to a “positive thinking” theology, but neither do we anchor in a negative theology. Our thinking has to be positively calibrated before we can pursue a life of joy and live, lead, and love the way God intended. When we embrace reality from a positive perspective, it calibrates us for a powerful life and ministry.
