Sometimes I ask myself the question, “Why do I believe in God?” I have doubts like everyone else, but I always come back to one simple reason. Here is my journal entry from this Easter Sunday morning. I decided I wanted to share it with you.
He is risen… he is risen indeed!
I woke up earlier this morning and felt the presence of Abba.
So much confusion in my life, so many things I do not understand, so many centuries and even millennia of speculation and prophets defining who God is.
Who is God? Is he real? Questions I ponder as often as anyone else.
Why do I believe in God?

We all desire clarity of vision and direction for the future. Clarity is important for decisiveness. It’s much easier to move boldly into the future when we have a clear picture in our spirit, mind, and soul. But what about those times when everything is foggy except for the next few steps? Trust is far more important than clarity when it comes to choosing the right paths and directions. Spiritual leaders, coaches, and mentors are always concerned with a clear vision of the future, and this episode of Calibrate Life focuses upon how the greatest visional clarity comes through a commitment to trust.
The most common question asked by leaders who want to honor Christ with their lives is, “How do I know what’s next?” “How do I know God’s will or direction for my life?” “How do I know when it is time to change paths, or which path I should choose?” All of those question have in common a desire for a crystal clear future, or at least a detailed life plan and direction. I’ve been reading a lot of blogs, articles, books, the latest and greatest you-should-do-this or buy-this resources, and listening to a lot of podcasts, in fact I regularly throw my own stuff in the mix… yep, I own it, I am a blogger, I am a podcaster, I am a writer, I have a lot of things in my heart and my head and I have joined the ranks.
I love to read what other people are thinking, but more than that, I love to read insights from people who have an obvious relationship with God and have a few scars to prove they’ve remained faithful through some tough stuff.
This past week, I’ve been thinking a lot about who I will and should listen to, who I will read, and who I will take advice from. Hey, I’ve learned incredible things from the most unlikely sources, many of them secular. It irks me just a little that sometimes it seems more wisdom flows from “secular” authors than from Christ-following writers and leaders. After all, God is the source of the most excellent wisdom. We are all different in our personality, the way we are wired, and the way we communicate. We uniquely connect with God according to our gifts, our personality, our calling, and who God made us to be. In this episode of Calibrate Life, we encourage spiritual leaders to follow their own unique path in how they best connect with God, and we provide some questions to consider in coaching and mentoring those we love and lead on their unique spiritual journey.
For our friends who would rather read than listen, we’ve included a detailed and time-stamped set of episode notes for those who would like to continue reading.

I am going to stop looking for the finish line; rather, I’m going to live life as though it never ends. I will be mindful of seasons and transitions and will observe and honor them. Death is merely one of the certain transitions, but life is forever.
One of my core values is keeping my focus on eternity, the things that go on forever. It brings perspective to the true importance of things. Yes, some temporary things are very important, for instance, the condition of our physical bodies, taking care of our environment, and the joys we experience on this journey; but, keeping an eternal perspective is important to living a joyful life. I am a prophetic being. Not the kind that can tell the future, but I do usually know the next step, the next creative step issued by the heartbeat of the Father, and I lean into that.
I think you know your next step too!
Sometimes we feel it should be different. We sometimes feel we should have all the details before moving forward. About all that gets you is stuck. This is a paradigm shift for me. I was the guy who wanted everything mapped out. Now, I try to simply take “next steps” and see where they lead me. I look for open doors and step through the ones I feel are right. I shrug at closed doors and (more…)
